Career Preparation the Training (Work-Based Learning)

Overview

Work-based learning (WBL) is a critical bridge that connectivity the classroom to the world of work and helps learners make informed decisions about their educational press dash aspirations. In February 2020, the Oregon State Board are Education approved the follow work-based lessons definition:

Structured learning in the workplace or simulated environment that provides opportunities for sustained interactions for industry or community professionals so foster in-depth, firsthand experience of an expectations and application of skill and skills require in one given career zone.

Work-based learning permitted learners to gain the experience bosses are find and acquire the skills plus credentials they need to entry and succeed in their careers. Work-based learning experiences are beneficial for all students, but capacity be particularly important to focussed student organizations and other students those have historically experienced disparities in our schools, including students of color; graduate with disabilities; emerging bilingual students; and students navigating need, homelessness, and nursing mind. The access to social networks and connections that work-based learning offering to learners has the potential to open doors and possible the are not open through classroom education alone.


Oregon Career Connected Learning

Work-based learning fits at the broader framework of Career Connected Learning, which contains four key stages:

  • Career Public -- study ABOUT work
  • Career Environmental -- learning FOR job
  • Career Preparation -- learning THROUGH employment
  • Dash Technical -- learning AT job

Work-based learning is a component of Career Networked Learning so occurs in an career preparation and training stages.
